Re-skinning Pete's Garage

I am thinking of redesigning my Pete's Garage cover along these lines:

  2. Heh. I just finished re-reading this again a week ago. Funny how these things are.

I Can't say I like this one as much as the other. Not sure why. Sorry be more constructive.

  3. It's a nice image, but where's the garage part?
The unusual combination of the wrench with the guitar on the original one is interesting. And I should definitely get it asap

I sure appreciate the sentiment. It was the notion that caused me to imagine the original cover with those motifs ~ not, incidentally, because the pipe wrench has anything to do with a garage.

It says on the back cover, the "garage" is a reference to musicians practicing in garages in order to get better at their craft. There is no actual garage in the book.

Whatever the case, Pete's Garage hasn't been selling. I've gotten all negative feedback on the cover and, although everyone who has read the book raves about it, the book's sales have been disappointing compared with other books I've written, which have easily sold three and four times as many.

I remember when I edited the book I had several musicians go over the text to manage any technical errors; I even paid some of them to do it, and wow did I learn a great deal! Every one of those musicians thought the concept was great and terrific ...

But as it happens, I have found that musicians don't read. More's the pity.

  5. But I have been making headway with 40-something middle-class women. Go figure. So a bright, friendly, pink-worded cover with a stark eye-catching vibe is bound to reach the audience I'm best at snagging.
