I have heard only from Anshelm, confirming the fact, but still I thought I'd move ahead with the suggestion that the party remains where it is, at the Pig, until the following Thursday, May 14th.
The cost on the considered house, for which the floor plan was posted a few days ago, would be 165 g.p. per month. In addition to the three floors presented, there is a cellar half the floorspace of the house and a yard which extends for 60 feet in back. The property is thus altogether 90'x20'. The yard will serve for grazing animals or for growing vegetables, as this was typical for the period, thus reducing the amount of money you would need for food. Obviously, the Pig is much cheaper, but I would remind the party that on any given night any person might sleep in the common room with you (there are no individual rooms) ... so a private home would be that much more secure.
I'll hold back on other events/hearsay for the week until I hear more from the party about how they want to spend that week, resting moderately to gain back hit points.
(OOC: Tiberius would like to visit some of the friends he made during the battle, particularly those from the Mage's Guild. I think their names were Isaac and Gebbert? Whatever their names were, he'll try to go in and see if they want to share an ale or something, while everyone else is resting. I believe Tiberius was not as wounded as the others, so he doesn't need to spend as much time recuperating. The aim is to gain some friends within the Mage's Guild, and, perhaps down the line, membership.)
ReplyDeleteTiberius,
ReplyDeleteIf you'd like to be a member of the guild, Gebbert will vouch for you. The up front fee is 100 g.p.
Obviously the town continues with the reconstruction. This is hard work and cannot be done by anyone healing. Since cantrips are useful in a lot of different ways, this keeps the mages busy ... but chances are that Gebbert and you will get an opportunity to share an ale (he's buying) for less than an hour at a little hole-in-the-wall tavern called the GIRUFF. It would be very easy to walk past it without knowing that it's there; it is in the foreign quarter, about three streets from the Gospoda, and consists of three tiny tables, at which the patrons stand (no stools) wedged into a space about ten feet by twelve. The kitchen is about the same size, and the whole space is underneath a cathouse. The clientele seems to be mages only.
Gebbert could possibly answer one question in the time you spend together, if you have a significant one to ask.
(OOC: Ah yes, Tiberius will also help with the reconstruction in any way he can, while his friends recuperate, using his strength or magic wherever it's helpful.
ReplyDeleteIf I think of a significant question to ask Gebbert, I'll post it up here later today. Otherwise, I'll assume they'll simply engage small talk.
By the way, what are the benefits typical of a mage's guild that Tiberius would know?)
Tiberius,
ReplyDeleteAh, in that case, with no immediate question on your mind, the opportunity was missed. But you will probably get a chance to talk to Gebbert again.
As for the mage's guild, a number benefits: the use of their library; news and gossip; steady access to the apothecaries without having to pay a 5% fee on off-market days; liaison with other mages' guilds in other towns. That sort of thing. Mages are not as friendly as clerics are, suggested by my post, but they will help one another buy unusual materials, research or arrange for setting up space for experimentation.
Beyond replenishing his tobacco supply, Anshelm will lay low in the Pig.
ReplyDelete(Kazimir is uninjured if I recall correctly. After spending one day resting, he will use his disguise ability...nothing outlandish, in fact he will remain a male half-orc, just one of slightly different appearance. Once so disguised, he will spend an evening in the Gospoda, seeing if he can find anything out about the glyph carved into the doorway, and to see if he can find out any information regarding the Hysparga.)
ReplyDeleteHe will also spend one evening at the Pig, trying to see if there is any trace of the Hysparga outside the foreign quarter. He will do these things alone. If any of his companions inquire about where he is going, Kazimir will be upfront with them and explain the glyph and the cult.
Another thing: Kazimir will try to catch up with those soldiers at the Gospoda. He will buy them an ale if he can find them when they are off duty.
ReplyDeleteIn case anyone might be interested, Delfig has not commented on this site lately due to his father being in the hospital under very serious conditions. I suggest you check his blog for information.
ReplyDeleteKazimir,
Your chance of learning anything is 30%, if you are speaking to a person who by chance might know anything. I have rolled the die, and it has allowed the following information: the glyph was put there by the owner of the tavern, Eduard Johannsen. That Johannsen is a local patrician (meaning that he is a powerful merchant). That Johannsen has placed his name in the running for Mayor, the choosing of which will occur on the 24th of May, within two weeks. And that Johannsen's purpose for putting the glyph on the door is unknown.
(TY for the well wishes)
ReplyDeleteDelfig would have rested for the week and at some point towards the end of the week, inquired as to what work might be available for him via the Merchant's Guid and Hornung's recommendation. Is there a cost to being bonded?
(At any point in the next two weeks, I may have to drop and run to Cincinnati. If I need to, Alexis, would you please run Delfig as you see fit? Thank you.)
Kazimir will casually inquire of the barkeep if Herr Johanneson has any orcish blood in his family line, or if they come from the general region of Kazimir's people.
ReplyDeleteDelfig,
ReplyDeleteI hope it's coming out all right with your father. But I don't think that 'running on Cincinnati' will become a hit for Jackson Browne.
I won't run Delfig on your account, but I will drift him in and out of the campaign as needed. Ken/Anshelm is hung up this week also and I'm fighting with Employment Insurance and the possibility that the job I was laid off from still exists. I'm not really concerned that the campaign is crawling at a snail's pace. I expected this for the summer, as everyone is busy, out of town, taking vacations and so on.
When two or three persons of the party let me know we're ready to move on, we will.
Kazimir,
The bartender takes some offense at being asked, and returns with the racist statement, "no, I'm not one of you" ... but then he thinks better of that, explains that he was taken by surprise and that the next ale is on the house.
I should have said: you should drop a couple of gold pieces for beers you've had while spying out the place.
(Ah, so the owner and the barkeep are one in the same? I thought them different for some reason. Are there any non-orcish folk who might be Hysparga? That is, has Kazimir ever heard of them to exist outside of orcish regions? The glyph is causing him considerable anxiety)
ReplyDeleteAh, that was my error. For some reason I read that you were inquiring as to the bartender's heritage. My bad.
ReplyDeleteNo, the bartender doesn't know, but doesn't think that Johannsen's heritage is anything but German. He would probably add, "Why do you ask?"
Kazimir will say,
ReplyDelete"Oh, I noticed a graven symbol outside that reminded me of my homeland. I think I've seen it before, but the years have made my memory foggy." Kazimir shrugs as if the matter is trivial to him.
Kazimir,
ReplyDeleteIt's at that point that you'd learn what you've already learned: that Johannsen put it there.
