The name was a natural thing; I remember Stampede Wrestling being on TV when I was a kid, and around Calgary the Hart family (sons Brett and Owen, other members of the family) were pretty near royalty in the city. People still come to Calgary to learn the "wrestling art," which frankly makes me a little ill.

Call me crazy, I'd rather we were known for something else, other than a rodeo and a wrestling phenomenon. Something, say, more intellectual. But you get what you get. At least it's not Disney.
Alexis Smolenskhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10539170107563075967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3871409676946408069.post-41339936189367934082018-07-13T13:30:23.978-06:002018-07-13T13:30:23.978-06:00I guess Stampede Wrestling got its name from this ...I guess Stampede Wrestling got its name from this event? As an American, the only things I ever knew about Calgary are hockey- or wrestling-related.

This makes me think about local traditions and events I grew up with where I never considered how they started or evolved.
